I have successfully installed RH8.0 and it's up and running! :D
Now I only need to install the videocard driver, but I don't know which one, there are so many too choose from. I know I need the .rpm GLX file and the .rpm Kernel file, but which one
AMD XP1600+
Soyo KT333 Black Ultra Mobo
Asus GF4 ti4400
512 DDR RAM
And RH 8.0 as stated before :p

I have said this many times but now i say this a last time: You need kernel driver package and glx driver package from Nvidia and i would use tar.gz packages.

Did you read my post at all? I know that I need the GLX and Kernell rpms, but which one of those?
There are several to choose and I don't want to download the wrong one and f*ck up my system as I now have it perfect. My hardware is stated in my first post, and I'm talking about the exact file I need for my system, that is the problem.
They have something like nvidia_glx-1.0-4191.i386 and so on, but which one? I don't know this, I apologize for my lack of info :(

If you're not sure which package to use download and run NVchooser.sh, it will tell you exactly what GLX and kernel packages you need.
oh, and as jp83 said use the tar.gz packages, I tried using the red hat .rpm packages for my geforce 2 and it went AWFULLY wrong(might work for you though...).
good luck:)

Doesn't anybody actually read Nvidia's instructions? And I quote:

"STEP 3: Download the Driver
If you are unsure of which file you need please download and run NVchooser.
You must download 2 files: a GLX driver file and a kernel driver file. The version of these files must match. "

How much simpler can they make it?

Why oh why, sorry this...I hate these things, when I just have missed a little but the most important part of readme when I went through it.
Well, next time I will post something, it will be when I really have a problem :)
Happy X-mas & New Year!
Santa, I want more games originally made for Linux this year...or atleast the next...!

If this is the case you don't understand what you did to get them installed.

I assume you didn't make a backup copy of your XF86Config-4 file before you made the required changes specified by the Nvidia documentation.

All you have to do is put the XF86Config-4 file back to the way it was before you changed it.

Nvidia drivers are not so invasive that you should have to reinstall!

It's not Windows!

I think the poster means for which OS version.

The last time I checked (a couple weeks ago) there was no rpm for redhat8.0.

2 choices, the above mentioned .tar.gz file, or, the .src.rpm file that is at the bottom of the list (if I remember correctly).

Other than that, just take the newest version available and follow the directions in the nVidia readme (takes about 10-15 minutes on my machine - AMD 2200+ - just to give you an idea).

But, yeah, this has probably been mentioned a bazillion times before and people tend to be really mad if it looks like you didn't do any work before hand. Then there is the whole bandwagon problem, if someone gets mad, 10 more people will jump down your throat.

This is not a cut at anyone above. It is just a problem in general, especially when you have people who are experts and have been using linux/unix for 10 years or so, they expect everyone to just 'know' what they are thinking.

There are RPM's available for RH 8 now. They are under the IA32 Linux drivers, the 4191's. If you don't run NVchooser.sh to get the correct files, MAKE SURE you download the kernel driver that is correct for your kernel.

I am running the updated 2.4.18 kernel and I accidently installed the wrong driver the first time around, needless to say it caused quite a few extra problems!
