I just bought a Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router(Model BEFSR41 V.2) and I have it all hooked up to my Windows 98. And I would like to getting it working on my Linux Box. Well I'm just a lost newbie and dont know how to get it working on Linux. I have Linux-Mandrake 7.2 and the ethernet card on the Linux Box is built in. Well I dont know if that makes a diffrence or not. I would greatly apperciate it if someone could help me out on how to configure it. Thanks for your time.

okay - is teh ethernet card detected? and does the linksys router act as a dhcp server? if so configure you nic to be configured as DHCP and have the gateway be the internel (i.e. on the same side of you lan) ip address of the router.

Well, I think it notices the device as eth0. Yes dhcp is enabled... I think everything is set up right, but when I go to opera it just sits there...

Do you have an inet adress when you "ifconfig"? I am using a linksys router too, you must make the dhcp clients one number higher than computers connect, because the router needs a ip adress for your lan. So connect to the router via the windows box and go to "dhcp" that should work. I had the same problem.

You need the dns servers setup in /etc/resolv.conf if you haven't already.

domain <isp domain name>
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx # isp dns 1
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx # isp dns 2

Is your gateway address pointing to the address of the router?

Well I think I know what the problem is, Whenever I go into to congfigure it, it wants a driver well it says to put in disc 1 so I do that and I do that it cant ever find it on the disc, I think there is a problem with the CDROM. Is there any way I can put this information in manually instead of having to get a driver from the disc. Or would it just be plain just easier re-installing Linux because I have no problem doing that I now when you install it asks you all the stuff... OR... is it that I'm putting in the wrong info, I'm getting all the info from the @home cable sheet I got, should I be putting in the routers IP or what... kinda confused.
