While trying to make Xmms the default application for mp3 files, I incorrectly changed something and now the program will not start from the Xmms shortcuts. I'm running Mandrake 9.0 and KDE 3. I uninstalled the package and re-installed it hoping it would fix itself, but it did not. If I click on the shortcut I have on the taskbar, Xmms tries to start, but I just get a little spinning hourglass, then it shuts itself down. If I select the Xmms shorcut from the panel (Multimedia -> Sound -> Xmms) the same thing happens. If from the panel I select What to do (it shows a Mandrake icon) -> enjoy music and video -> Listen to music files (Xmms icon), then Xmms will start.
When I tried (unsuccessfully) to make Xmms the default program, I went to Configuration -> KDE -> File Browsing -> File Associations. I expanded audio and selected mp3. Under the General tab, 'Application Preference Order' I added Xmms (there was previously nothing there). Clicked 'Apply" and 'OK'. After this did not work, I tried resetting the defaults, but nothing changed back to the way it was. After that, the shortcuts stopped working.
Where can I go from here?
Thanks
