hi,

i succsessfull connected to the net using RedHat 8.0 and alcatel speedtouch usb now i can't see any site if i try to ping a site i get "unknown host " what i find strange is is when i type


ping 216.239.33.101


i get a reply ........ also when i open a browser and typ that ip i see it's homepage but when i type www.google.com(216.239.33.101)i get unknown host as answer the dns servers from my isp are in /etc/ppp/resolv.conf
they are aloso detected

tail -f /var/log/messages tells me

chap authentication succes
local ip adress: ***.**.**.**
remote ip adress ***.**.**.*
primary dns = ***.**.***.**
secondary dns=***.**.***.**

etc ....

how do i get it to work properly :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:

personally i think the security level is to high but i can't change it it set itself automaically back to the previous setting if i change it

problem solved !

add the dns from your isp to /etc/resolv.conf........

Can't help you with your problem, but setting the security level in RedHat 8 works, its just the program that defaults to the highest level if you restart it.
If you have a look at /etc/sysconfig/iptables as root, you can see that the wizard works as it should.
