ive got a similar problem now. ive got a 9100 series and am trying to burn drake72 also. i burned a disk using HpMyCD and the file fit but my computer won't boot it. someone told me i need to create an image so i tried using DirectCD but as you said, the file wont fit because DirectCD formats the cd which takes up space. so the only way i know around this is to get a larger CD.

I have a HP-9500i burner and found that the HPMYCD software cant handle an ISO properly. Your best bet is to get different software. Adaptec is very popular for windows. Check around for good software.

DirectCD will just copy the iso to the CD as one file. Won't do you any good.

What you need to do in any CD creation software is select 'Create CD from Image' and then point to the iso. This will extract the filesystem from the iso and burn the CD. If you are not careful what you select to create the CD, you will also get the one iso file on the CD.

Don't be confused by the size of the iso. Why would Mandrake release the iso if it is too big for the CD. One iso image I created a 650MB CD from was 680MB originally.

Perhaps have a look at Adaptec's website to find the exact procedure for creating a CD from the iso image.

If your using Windows, check the software that came with your burner. I have a 9100 series and it shipped with Adaptec's EasyCD Creator. All you have to do is download the ISO, double-click on it, and the EasyCD Creator software will open up and burn the CD. It works GREAT! I've never had a problem with it when burning in Windows.

By the way, check out Adaptec's site for any updates.

hmmm, iv downloaded a few patches, but i seem to have Direct Cd-r software, not EZ-Cd
and there is no option of creating an iso and then pointing it to the iso file. I did just burn the iso file on to a cd but it doessnt boot, and its not the right way, because it still looks like a little window icon, not a star. Can you buy E-Z cd? i guess this is the only option?

You must have EasyCD Creator as DirectCD comes with it or vice versa. And don't use DirectCD and your only copying the iso from your HD to the CDR.

You've checked your Program Menu for EasyCD Creator or Create a CD or something similar. Try double-clicking the iso in Explorer as suggested. Use Explorer to look in Program Files\Adaptec for the exe.

Did you get a software CD with the drive? You have DirectCD on your system. Did you install it yourself?

You can buy CD Creator Deluxe, but it's kinda expensive. I just bought a newer CDRW and got the oem version of CD Creator (standard) 4.02 and DirectCD 3.02 for $10. where I purchased the CDRW. Maybe your local computer store(s) will sell you a copy cheap.
