Anyone using, or tried, the Eagle CM 8738 PCI Sound Card with Linux 7.2, in other words does anyone know if it will work ? I presently have Sound Blaster 16/PRO (on board) and although I did get it to work with Linux 6 series it simply won't work now with the 7.
Thanks 'hoppers'

If this is the C-Media CMI8738 then support was apparently added a little over a year ago, I've never tried it though.

If you have a sound blaster card (any model) then it is possible to make it work, if it's not working automatically you might want to read over http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Sound-HOWTO/ and if you still can't get it working describe your problems here and someone may help you. *but* if you have a pci sound card available like you suggest, then you might as well use that since pci cards usually just work when you put them in, much less hassle then isa cards like the sound blaster 16.

When you say "Linux 7" you obviously mean either red hat or mandrake but it may be helpful for those trying to help in the future if you specify your distro.

Yep. Sorry bout dat. Should have cited exactly what. U no how it is, u r on a train of thort and forget tothers are not. Won't happen again.
Further, thank you for your advice re the cards. My SB16 is an onboard so if I install the PCI I will have to disable SB. I haven't got the PCI yet, just can at a good price, so will give SB a few more tries then throw arms up in resignation.
Thanks again.
