You know, questions like 'Which distro?' etc. that always seem to come up.

Keep the poll open for an extended period and that way the polls will always be fairly fresh and not knocked out by the 'last 10 days' filter.

One of the comments I see often on this kind of question is that the people that are asking don't get a straight answer - its more a case of 'whatever suits you/your hardware/the weather/whatever'. At least this way the newbies will have somewhere to see some hard numbers. Maybe later they'll realise that it really is a case of 'what suits you', but at least it will give them a starting point.

One point to note is that every time this type of thread gets posted, the response numbers are fairly high, but the read numbers are in the hundreds!

And yes, I'm a newbie myself, 9 days so far and struggling hard at it, but I'll get there!

Maybe we could even have a poll where the questions are
I was sent to this thread because ...
I didn't search the forums before asking a question
I didn't search google.com before asking a question
I ddn't read the manual before asking a question
I asked a dumb question and didn't have the sense to delete the thread
All of the above
I have no idea
Could yield some interesting results - maybe make the subject line "your questions answered ..." or something, it would be fun to see what the numbers look like after 6 months!! *grin*
