It doesn't even work on Windows! miteycasey 12-10-2002, 08:51 PM If it was working in Windows previoulsy then the card has come loose or it has gone bad. fancypiper 12-10-2002, 08:58 PM If your mobo has built-in audio and you have a sound card, you have to disable the mobo sound in the bios. Possible troubles for both os: 1. Bad sound card 2. Speakers not connected properly 3. Bad solder connection connecting speaker socket to card 4. Blown speakers 5. Power for speakers off or bad power supply To have sound work in Redhat (up to 7.3 at least) you must run sndconfig or setup to configure. VirtuaKnight 12-10-2002, 10:10 PM The speakers, power, or connection isn't the problem. and if sound no longer works in Windows, it can't be because I haven't configured it yet. So I guess it was just a coincedence that it broke... wait a minute. I remember seeing something when it was either booting up or finishing the install. It said something about kudzu (which I know is the admin program which is used to configure hardware) and not being able to detect a sound card. Did any of that help? Thank you for your time Homer119 12-10-2002, 10:10 PM or there are catapillers in your computer (the sound card eating type) I suggest burning your computer;) fancypiper 12-10-2002, 10:20 PM I forgot a possiblity. Open your computer and unplug and reseat the soundcard. If the contacts are different metals, they can corrode and make bad connections. TreeHugger 12-11-2002, 05:59 AM If Kudzu detected that your soundcard had gone, then at some point it must have detected that it was there. Windows would do the same. Take your sound card out completely and boot linux. Kudzu should remove the config from its database if you answer within 10 secs or so. Also boot windows and delete the soundcard config. Then put the card back in and boot up again and see what kudzu does. justlinux.com
