I've been tinkering with linux for sometime, I have a box doing nat and firewalling with redhat up, etc. I've been using RedHat 6.2 for my desktop for quite sometime but feel like its time to play around a bit more. I was considering switching to redhat 7.0 but wanted to ask for some other suggested distros to try. Debian and slackware are both coming to my mind right now. I don't need a user friendly install or anything, but I don't mind an install that will build me a GUI with plenty of apps. What do you think I should try? The machine is is a p800 with 128 megs of ram and 10 gigs of hd space.
Thanks!
john

Please read the distro-NHF (http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/distros/distronhf.html) before you start another distro-war...

Too much Sun can give you cancer. Windows break too easily.
Apples/Macintoshes can rot. BSD... sounds too much like LSD.

tuxedo.

Linux, the only one with the Penguin.

what do you mostly do with the box? (if all you do with a p3 800 is nat/firewall ... i hope u die) If a gui is what you care about, then any of the distros would be fine, since they all run X. You might want to see if X 4.02 has any probs with any specific distro, otherwise no dist makes much diff. But i still must suggest Debian cause it is very stable (rhat screwed up on me about 3 times, Debian only once, and i've used deb 2x as long) and since apt-get rules http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
