I have troubble getting old DOS classics like Slix n Slide and the Gauntlet to work. Is there any trick on how to attack them?

Is there someting special that I should do?

Um, DOS is not Linux...

You need to use something like dosemu. And if the game uses DPMI (DOS Protected-Mode Interface, generally it's a good indication that they do if the startup says something about a DOS extender or whatnot), then it pretty much won't work at all.

DOSemu works very well if you have a reliable DOS boot image (Win95 boot disk worked the best for me)

Well of course Linux isn't DOS! That is one of the big resons why I use Linux.

I do not have a DOS boot image since I don't want anything to do with Microsoft. Is there any other way to get DOSemu to work? Without the boot image?

dosemu comes with a copy of FreeDOS, which it boots. However, I don't know how well that works...

This guy has boot disks you can download
http://www.putergeek.com/downloads/
But he was nice enough to make them as .exe's for you

Here's Win98 (http://home.attbi.com/~cerelli/win98_boot.zip) in a zip file..no idea what's in it
Here's a bizzar list (http://www.powerload.fsnet.co.uk/bootdisk.htm) of boot images some guy has archived since DOS 3.3

Hi there,

I'd recommend www.bootdisk.com for your choice of bootdisk (it has them all) It also has various utilities like Ranish etc.

You may also need to find a utility to slow down the machine otherwise rick dangerous will look like benny hill :).

I think www.dosgames.com has the utility

Cheers
