Hello...

Here is one pb that is really preventing from using Linux. I installed Linux Debian on a HDD of its own and Win ME on another.
Listen to this one: I boot on Linux to try to get my internet up or work on it...when I switch back to my WinME I unplug the HDD were Linux is on and I try to connect on the Internet but it doesn't work...btw I have ADSL at home...I actually have to wait an hour or so and then it works back.
Could it be that on bootup the inet deamon sends a particular signal to my ethernet card that prevents my Win to use it. Cuz right after my network is unusable.
If anybody has an answer besides a haunted Ethernet card I would really appreciate so I could get working on it again.

Thank you...

You were probably connected in some way while up in Linux, so the ISP didn't release your network card hardware-address and IP.

If that happens and your ISP only give you one dialup at the time (quite normal that), then you will not be able to log on again until your IP-address gets freed by time-out, hence telling the server that you are no longer there.

For more on ADSL dialup under Linux: http://www.roaringpenguin.com/pppoe/

I needed to update my dialer when I got ADSL - the one I got from my ISP didn't work (version 1.300.000). Once installing version 2.6 everything worked fine.

Setting it up was a breeze, considering that it came as source. All I had to do, was to write "./go" once I was in the folder, answer a few questions, and the rest I could read on the screen, while installing and configuring.

It also followed a easy-to-set-up firewall in the package.

OK....I get it....
Is there a way for me to release those adresses soI can use my connection under Win?

Thank you but I think I am gonna stick with my Win for Internet. Done already lots of reading but failed to set anything up.
But I would really appreciat the answer to that question above since I like to play a little with my Linux but my Win is important. Got all my apps.

Thanx again
