I didn't really see anything relevant at kernel.org. armando86 08-12-2001, 12:47 AM Originally posted by Giscardo: where can i find out what's new/different about this kernel? Two relevant things (to me at least) are the new DRM stuff (which drops support for X 4.0.x) and the new Soundblaster driver. johnmann 08-12-2001, 01:01 AM Originally posted by lilrabbit129: Anyone have any good/bad experiences with it? i'm gonna try to update/compile my first kernel... so i want some advice, thanks -lilrabbit I have it up and running ,so far it seems just fine.No strange happenings as of yet. ;) ;) lilrabbit129 08-12-2001, 04:35 AM koo thanks now if i can just figure out how to d/l the 26+ meg file over Netzero and a 56k connection.... hehe bdg1983 08-12-2001, 06:41 AM Just finished compiling 2.4.8 though I haven't booted it yet. Will try after I get home from doing some OT. Have to go to work to install some software on our AIX servers. Might as well do the 2.4.8 kernel at work while I'm there. Still can't get agpgart to load with the 2.4.2 or 2.4.7 kernel. Damn. bdg1983 08-12-2001, 12:44 PM Works great and the gui boot now works as it would only work in the default 2.4.2 kernel. The boot messages are absolutely clean. slapNUT 08-12-2001, 06:06 PM lilrabbit129 Thats why I swear by patches. You only need to download that big ole tar-ball once if you keep it up to date with patching. mdwatts Don't you mean the boot messages are absolutely GREEN. I love to see those green [ OK ] 's after a new kernel compile :D I did notice the support for the Intel i815 onboard graphics chip set. bdg1983 08-12-2001, 06:56 PM Yeah your right. It's about time a new kernel gave me something besides a blank screen during boot. You must realize by now that I'm not very bright. [ 12 August 2001: Message edited by: mdwatts the 3rd ] justlinux.com
