See if any of these problems could be what are giving you trouble. Perhaps one of the hard disk issues?

Do you get the first screen that says you can press "F1" for help, or does it fail before that?
If you are able to view the help screen, there are other install modes you can choose that may work.
You can also type "rescue" to see if the computer will boot up at all. It should boot to a text mode interface. You can reboot with CTL-ALT-DEL.
If it fails booting altogether I have to believe you either have a bad CD or hardware issues.
If it fails booting from CD, does a boot floppy work? Any boot floppy.
Since I see a low post count I will ask how much Linux experience you have.

yes i am a newbie with linux, i had instaled my copy of mandrake on my laptop but was unsatified with the lack of suport for the hardwear and decided to stick with windows, i have recived the computer im going to install it on because well someone was just going to toss it. i have tryed using the F1 options such as "rescue" and text only, but the same thing happens. i belive it might be a faulty ram sim or some other hardwear issue, i have recived errors about the ram from my bios but just turned of the fault check... so i plan on changing up some of the hardwear and seeing what happens.

thank you for your help

I was able to get 8.2 to run well on a system with less ram than that.

The RAM could well be the problem.
The computer itself sounds powerful enough to run Linux well. While you are replacing the RAM you may want to double check all cable connections.
Was asking about your experience so I could better word my replies.
Good Luck
