Hi, all.

Just need to know if there is a program for linux that is compatable with Microsoft Word?

Abiword also has limited .DOC capabilities, plus there is a little command line tool called antiword that will convert your .DOC files for you.

But OO.o rules the roost at the moment :)

Almost all the better Linux word processors have some .doc compatibility; and are getting better at it. They also do .rtf formats, which Winword picks up without skipping a beat.

Another good option, if you can still find it, is StarOffice 5.2 (from Sun, still free). As of version 6.0, it isn't free. I've been using StarOffice for a couple of years, moving or copying files back and forth between my Linux and windo$e partitions. StarOffice handles msoffice files well, and msoffice doesn't complain when I create a file in StarOffice and save it as a msoffice file and move or copy it over to the windo$e side.
