You can the change to the directory where it unzipped to and run 'make'. This should install it, but check the readme file in the dir where it unzipped. If it is a filename.rpm file you can run 'rpminst --verbose --packages filename.rpm'. irlandes 08-11-2001, 12:12 PM Originally posted by RAGEAngel9: Hi againOk I downloaded Licq to see how that was under Linux vs Windows and I downloaded the file but I don't know how to unzip it or load it or well mucg else. Help please If it is in .zip format, which is not likely, unzip filename should work. Check to see if there is a man zip or man unzip. Also, if you type mc at any terminal prompt, you get a very powerful file manager, Midnight commander. At the bottom is a menu key. One of the menu choices is to gzip/gunzip files, with the stroke of a key. Also something there for bz2, I think. That's linux, lots of choices. Malakin 08-11-2001, 12:25 PM A copy of licq comes with mandrake, it may be installed by default depending on the options you choose, if so it will be in kmenu->network->instant messaging. If it's not installed you can use the mandrake software manager, icon to that is on the desktop. The copy of licq that comes with mandrake 8.0 is still the most recent version I believe and it works great. If you want to download a program, you sound rather new to linux. Try sticking with rpm's. To install an rpm you just click on the rpm and some rpm manager program will startup allowing you to install it. Always see if a program is on the mandrake cd's before going elsewhere to obtain it, since the versions on the cd's always install smoothly, well in theory :) irlandes 08-11-2001, 08:01 PM Originally posted by idealego: ...To install an rpm you just click on the rpm and some rpm manager program will startup allowing you to install it. This worked fine in older versions, but on mine, with version 8.0, it calls up one of the software managers, and always finds some reason to refuse to install it. I need to open kpackage (K menu, then Configuration, then Packaging, then Package Manager), change size of windows, click and drag file from where it is, to the left half of kpackage, and it starts the install process. You have an opportunity to select/deselect upgrade, test, etc. Of course, it is always good in the long run to learn to use the terminal with all the available options! see man rpm for ideas. justlinux.com
