Is it possible to control the sound output of your computer? i just realised i was listning to a song and it wasnt loud enough or it was too loud, and i wanted to change the volume but i couldnt find anything that controls the volume output. is it possible?

You should have gmix, kmix, or some sort of mixer (volume control).

Have you checked all your entries under audio?

You didn't mention your WM/DE so I can't help further.

o ya, i am running KDE on mandrake 9.0 with some old soundblaster

I believe kde uses kmix. If you can't find it under any of your menu items (multimedia? Gnome uses audio, settings->sound maybe) open up an x terminal and commandkmix and see if it pops up, if not post the errors.
