Beware - this is an extreme newbie issue, but i'm having a bit of trouble making the adjustment from installing software on a Windows machine (which of course is as easy as clicking on an .exe file) to doing the same simple tasks on my new Redhat linux machine. My example is this:

I noticed that the version of Netscape navigator i'm running is rather old so I go to the website and download the latest, placing close attention to the location where i'm saving the new files that i'm downloading. Okay, so I then browse to that location once the download is finished and attempt to install the upgrade. I notice several files that seem pretty straightforward such as "license.txt" and "config.ini" and then what appears to be the boon of my search: the "netscape-installer" file.

Great, except for that when I double-click on the icon all I get is "No Action Taken." That stinks, so I start double-clicking other files that might kick off the installation process, but to no avail. This brings up the same irritable feeling that I felt when I attempted to install the Linux version of VNC from the AT&T website because I like to connect to all of my machines remotely. But I can browse those same installation files all day long without ever being able to get the process rolling. HELP!

Thanks (and by the way, i'm determined to stick with the LInux O/S no matter how tough it seems to do simple operations)

change to your terminal

cd netscape-installer
./netscape-installer
the necessary files will download and install
follow onscreen help

all of these procedures are in the README file, and INSTALL file, which is part of your downloaded netscape-installer package.;)
