Did anybody have tried to upgrade xfree86 to version 4.x? It seems pretty complex process because xfree86 does not come in as one big package. You can't just install xfree86 only.

Siskmarek 09-23-2001, 12:10 PM I remember installing XFree86 when it hit 4.0 so long ago. =') XFree86 actually isn't that bad to install. The XFree86 website gives very comprehensive (IMO) instructions on what to download and how to install it. Take a look at it on the XFree86 (http://www.xfree86.org) website, read through the installation procedure, and you should have no problem at all. ~ Siskie bluesky 09-23-2001, 12:46 PM Yes. I was wrong. 7.1 already has xfree86 4.03. I should have checked it first. Christopher Estep 09-23-2001, 03:30 PM If you dual-boot Linux and Windows (or have XCDRoast working), I would seriously consider grabbing *all* of each release of XFree86 (especially if it's newer than your current version) and burning it to CD. If you have broadband, it's a no-brainer. The biggest problem is matching the proper glibc (especially in RPM-based distros *older* than RH/LM 7.x ) of your distro. Fortunately, both RedHat and Linux-Mandrake now use the *same* glibc (2.2); however, LM tends to have newer kernels (8.1 RC1 now uses 2.4.8, while RH 7.1 is up to 2.4.3-12). justlinux.com
