Hey gang,
Here is my setup before we get to the problem.
192 meg ram
450 mhz amd chip
Voodoo 3 3000 or 3500 I can't remember
Slackware 7.1

I am getting absolutley horrible performance when it comes to graphics (in this case it is an openGL game, Tux racer). Even GL xmms plugins choke hard. I get about one frame refresh every 2 seconds. The graphics are clean and clear, but the performance is awful. I have mesa and GLUT installed, and GL works, but only works well in instances like running a GL xmms plugin in a very small window.

How do I get better performance out of GL for games, fullscreen plugins, and the like, so it doesn't choke so much as to make it useless?
Thanks,

What version of X are you running? If you are still using X 3.3.5 (Slack default still) then you need to setup your 3d acceleration.

Sorry, this doesn't help. But, if you have the TV option, you have the 3500. If you don't, you have the regular 3000.

do you have the stock mesa and glide or do you have the mesagl and updated glide packages installed.I have 1 of those cards in a box running Slack 7.1 and the performance is great.I am not into games but the odd time I play one the performance was good for me.

Thanks for the replys,
I am running v 3.3.5, and I have a voodoo 3 3000. I have mesa 3.2 the mesa from slackware-current and I don't have glide. I have no idea what 3d acceleration is or how to get it/set it up. Can you help me with that? Also, do I need to get glide? I am a console cowboy and am not too experienced with X.
Thanks for the help

What is 3d acceleration? Can someone please point me to the doc's for this? I installed glide, but performance did not improve in the least.
Thanks
