Hello!

I´have just installed Redhat 8.0 and ít seems pretty good!
When I start Kde it says :

Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device

the soundcard is a integrated Ac97 on a MSi Via motherboard.
don´t know what to do, it worked under Mandrake 9.0 thats strange I think??

Pete

What does lsmod command show? Do a search on LNO and see what others did to get it running.

did you disable plug in play in your BIOS? have you run sound config? if not I would run that? this link will explain how to do so http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-7.2-Manual/itanium-install-guide/s1-trouble-after.html
look under the section titled: Problems with Sound Configuration.
if you need to install sound config do this:

select install packages from your menu kde or gnome I believe it is under system settings (forgive me if that is incorrect, I am running MD 9.0 @ the moment) anyway after you get the install packages menu select soundconfig from the multimedia section of the package list
and then install it.

Then repeat the procedure above to run sound config.

If soundconfig See's your card and loads the correct module you should be set. if not I would check to make sure your card is supported by RH 8.0 check here http://hardware.redhat.com/hcl/?pagename=hcl
Hope that helps :D post back if you need further help:cool:
