Ok, i have done a forum search, and i have checked out similar problems...
in fact refer to http://www.linuxnewbie.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=77331
this guy has the same card as me, the ac97 on board sound, but its the only sound card in my machine... mandrake 9.0 has no sndconfig, used harddrake... told me the driver is installed: ICH2 810 Chipset AC'97 Audio Controller
but i play sound with xmms and it plays too quickly on the progress bar, no sound coming out... i HAVE checked the mixer, volume set correctly.
also i get a message saying 'arts soundserver crash cpu overload' (not a copy and paste, just from memory)
if theres anyone out there who has the same sound chip and has got it working, id really appreciate some help, something of a newbie here, i have used linux in the past (suse 6.2... setting up sound on that was hassle too, different scard), but still pretty lost.
ive been to the avance website, got the linux drivers, havent compiled them but they're made by ALSA so i think are installed already... if theres any more info that could help diagnose the problem tell me and ill get it!
