basically, i have just configured the 2.4.7 kernel for my RedHat 7 distribution, and all went fine, but upon reboot, im getting my old kernel and not the new one....Does this have anything to do with the fact that i use a bootdisk (b/c i have Win2k on same drive) to boot into linux instead of LILO, and if it is, could someone help me out with booting the new kernel.
Thanks in advancne for any help

If you didn't change your boot disk, then yes, that is your problem. As for help, I'm going to suggest doing what I do. I have LILO on a boot disk. That way you can configure it to boot what ever you want and just take it out to boot Winblows.

You have to change /etc/lilo.conf so that it boots the new kernel.
But, the boot process does not read lilo.conf
so to make the changes take effect you absolutely must run:
/sbin/lilo

I've never tried it for the boot disk, but as far as getting the kernel on your startup LILO options, what the previous guy means when he tells you go and run /etc/lilo....simply login as "root" then all you have to type at the command prompt is "lilo" and hit "Enter". I am assuming you have already added the proper lines to your "lilo.config" file in the /etc directory. When you hit "Enter" the command prompt will tell you that it added your new kernel image. It will tell you if anything went wrong with it. If it comes back with no errors, just restart and "there she be". If you haven't edited your lilo.config file let me know and I will tell you what you need. Hope this helped. D|s
