I am attempting to install SuSE Linux 6.2 on a PC that's hard drive is connected to a Promise Ultra66 IDE Controller card and the installaion doesnt recognize the Hard Drive. I was wandering where I could find a module that I could boot w/ or load during install that would allow the HD to be recognized. If you could help it would be appreciated

Ive had similar probs installing Win 2k. and this is how I got around it, not sure if it will be the same for SuSe, but it is worth a shot.

more than likely it is the controller that is not being recognized. temporarily, put the hdd on another standard IDE, with standard ribbon. After install you can switch back.

That may work with Windows, since Windows will assign the first master drive it can find to the letter "C" no matter which IDE controller its hooked up to. This is not true for Linux (or any *nix) which will cause problems when the disk are assigned partitions like /dev/hda[n] - if hooked up on the first IDE controller during installation - and then moved to the Promise controller afterwards, where it should be assigned /dev/hde[n] etc.

Your best bet is to get a more recent distro that handles the Promise controllers during install, like Mandrake 8.x or RedHat 7.x (probably SuSE 7.x too, but you have to pay for that one (which is not a bad thing anyway)).
