I'm planning on buying Warcraft 3 and wondering how well it works. I've been using a cracked version and the single player is great, but I can't test Battle.net because of my fake cdkey. I already know it's a great game, but does battle.net even work? I've tried Starcraft on battle.net and I could login and do everything but the menus were screwed up beyond belief.
So, go or no go?

I already know it's a great game Haha, good one. Blizzard really **cked up with Warcraft III. It'll be awhile before they make another game as great as Starcraft.

warcaft isn't meant to be like starcraft (notice how it's not called starcraft?) If you want a "good" game wait till starcraft 2.

Anyways, how well does bnet run? is it perfect, or does it run fine but the menus are screwy like in HL? or do you have any sort of connection problems or anything at all?

Works perfectly! Just like in windows!!! (Slightly better ingame even!)

Only 1 problem though, and I think that its my machine's, not winex:

The load times are noticebly longer....dont know why...I got hella fast harddrives...but i dunno

That's relative... I like WC3 better than SC ;) But I've always been in love with warcraft. I like them both though and the three combined with civilization are my three favorite games. I was pretty damn excited to see Free Civ on Linux after I first installed it.

I am just now though, as of reading this thread, becoming aware that you are able to run WC3 on linux... even on Blizzard's websites they say something to the effect of "we have no plans of ever making a version of warcraft compatible with linux" and I figured that it was too new to run in wine..

hmmm, I find that since the latest patch it's running very slow and stuttery, and it still rarely notices I have a keyboard :/

Anyone able to help with this? Or with the fact that Oni doesn't want to work on either? I get an unhandled exception in the terminal window

And try that for every harddrive. It sure helped for me... brought my bandwidth up from 3mb/s to 24mb/s! (thats megabytes!)

I guess to finish off this thread, I went out to buy WC3 and it works great. It is almost perfect. There is one nag I have where sometimes if i try to join a custom game it just sits there and i need to close wine (doesn't crash, just all buttons grey out and it never returns to normal). But this happens rarely and it might be network prob not a wine prob.
