I've got a MS Optical mouse w/ scroll wheel and two extra side buttons, which I would like to use for back/forward functions in the browsers.
Currently, only the two default buttons and scroll wheel will work.
Is there a way I can configure Mandrake to recognize the two extra buttons??
Thanks.

The first thing would be to try through the Mandrake Control Center through X. There should be a section for configuring hardware. If that doesn't work check this site (http://www.xfree86.org/4.2.1/mouse.html) and edit your XF86config-4 accordingly. Make sure you restart X after making changes.
Good luck!

Nice site...but where does it talk about getting those extra 2 buttons working?
I've never been able to get the two side buttons to work at all...
neither have i.
i have tried to add
Option "Buttons" "7"
to my /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file and i get the 4th and 5th buttons coming up as buttons 2 and 3 with xev.
i'd REALLY like to know how this is supposed to work.

I was messing around with this the other week and the best I could do was re-map everything. Wheel up moved the mouse down, wheel down moved it right, left click scrolled up, right click moved left, up right clicked, right left clicked...
As you can guess, I opened a lot of things I didn't want to :D
But was never able to get those other 2 buttons to do anything!
