Downloaded Linux a few days ago, struggled for ages to make X work - and it appeared to be some missing packages (rpm's) for KDE.
Fixed.

I just now went to opera.com and downloaded the tar.gz... i extracted it and couldnt find a help file, so i opened the file called "install.sh" in the vi editor, and looked through the code.

I found the section where it explained the parameters and read it through.
I then logged in as root in the gnome terminal, and ran it with the parameter -s (standard installation). And it works!! I did it all by myself. :D :D

I love Linux, if it werent for me being a eager delphi programmer and gamer as well, I would drop windows alltogether.

Why not upgrade to Kylix 3 (Delphi Equivalent for Linux supplied by Borland). Currently, it's supplied free with Delphi 7 Professional & Enterprise.

As for games there are plenty about, if you have a favourite on Windows then see if WINE supports it.

Now you do have a reason for dumping M$.

You can run servers on linux and connect to yourself depending on what game you're playing if you want to host games on linux.. yeah, that's broad, but I don't know what kind of gaming you're into.
