Hey All-
I'm running RedHat 6.1 and have a problem with the system time function. Everytime I set the time through X Windows and restart, the time is set to what appears to be random time; its never the same and always wrong. How can I correct this? How do I set system time via command line?

Does date and time work at the commandline?
Also, are they set correctly in the BIOS?

MDWATTS-
Thanks for responding. No, time is screwed up from the command line too. I just tried to go into bios but wasn't given the opportunity, it went from a dead monitor, to the vendor screen straight to LILO. What's up with that?
Thanks,

Set the clock this way:
date MMDDHHMMYYYY
then:
hwclock --systohc
that forces the system time into the hardware clock. Now, provided that your TZ information is there, the clock will work.
A "forever" end to all this is NTP. It's tiny, easy to get going, and gets your system and hardware clock on the money, all the time. I did a simple page on this at http://www.raymondjones.net/ntpguide.html
Try it, you'll like it. Ray
