This is my first forey at burning cd's in Linux and I can say I'm quite pleased. I got over the hard part. I plugged in the new (to me) HP cd-rw. I installed Mandrake 8.2 on a spare partition and got it setup. I had to jigger it because the boot is handled with my original Mandy 8.2 (I have two separate partitions). So once I added the append option of hdc=ide-scsi boom it was set. I had xcdroast setup in a minute and burned my first cd in linux. Problem is it don't do multisession. :(
I've read up and gtoaster seems to be the way to go. I use my cdr's to make incremental backups of programs I want to save so I need multisession. So I'd like opinions I've only heard people talk about gtoaster being good for this. Is this it or are there other progs that I can use (preferably included with Mandy 8.2) that can do multi session cd-r? Funny it was easier to set this up than it was my printer in cups the first time.

Oh, I also just loaded gnome-toaster but it doesn't seem to want to write the tracks I select. And there is no documentation to help. Supposedly this will do multisession but I can't seem to get it to go. I don't get any actual errors just keeps giving output of no recordable tracks found. Any ideas on this one.

XCDRoast has a multi session option in Create CD/Write Tracks.

Though I've never tried it myself.

Yeah, sure it does. The only problem is that when you click on it it brings up a dialog box that states "Not implemented yet" (Ain't that nice) And subsequently it fixates the cd at the end. Don't know if there's a new version out that fixes that but the version in Mandy 8.2 doesn't work. Still trying to figure out gtoaster.

Don't get me wrong. Xcdroaster is a good program and sets up easy. And for burning iso's and full cd's it's fine but for multisession it don't work.

OK now I have a real question. Xcdroast is still the same. I'll use it for burning my audio cd's and making copies of others. But still looking for a multisession burning software. I've got Win98 (ugh) loaded on hda1 for that for now until I find a good replacement. But I've now tried eroaster and when I go to scan reader or recorder it gives me back errors saying can not read device scd* check that you have permissions to read this drive. This is as root. And everything works in xcdroaster. Any ideas?

Don't know exactly, as I don't use this, but a dialogue as that is common to a mounted/unmounted situation.
