How do i fix this?

I know everything is working fine with my ethernet card.All except for one thing. I am able to ping myself using the eth0. HOWEVER, when i try to "ifup eth0"(after ifdown lo) it says that the device or resource is busy. How do i get it to not be busy?!

How about ifdown eth0 ... then try ifup eth0 again and see what happens.
Not too elegant, I now, but you never now.
