Do you have the official NVIDIA drivers installed?

In Linux install Nvidia drivers. In Windows check program called Cacheman (opinion version 4 is better than 5 or later) that makes quite good results.. and download some tool (like ZTAGPTool) or check in bios that you have enabled agp side band transfer mode (litle speed up). + Check that your mobo's and video card bios is newest version that is avaible.
