I need to set up a mandrake 7.2 server for a LAN. It doesn't need to be anything fancy, It just has to work. This is a class project and we currently have no documentation on how to do the setup. If you know of a site that has "how to" instructions on setting up a server I would greately appreciate a link to it. :-)
(did I mention that this is for an extra credit project?)

I am using Red Hat which I believe Mandrake is also derived from Red Hat. I have set up my server as a samba server for Windows machines. I did a lot of reading to get this done. I hope to set it up as a Linux (Unix) server as well. I understand this uses the NFS (network file system) and it uses the concept of "exporting" the linux directories to other linux machines.

For this project the server must have the fallowing features:
print server (samba prefered)
file server (samba prefered)
full access for win98 machines
web server (it will get access threw our NT server)
FTP server
and 28 user accounts
The bad news is that no one in the class has much experience with linux, and the only resource we have is material that we can find on the web.
Once again I'd be extremely greateful for any help you can offer.

I recommend proftp for the ftp server
since you are doing so much varied... stuff, the best help you are going to find I believe is in the individual webpages for each respective product.
After you have tried installing all that stuff and if you still have a problem, ask away with specific details about things you can't figure out and I'm sure someone here will be able to help ya! good luck http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
