There is such a choise of different MPŁ encoders such as Blade and Lame that the more i read the more confused i get. Is there much difference between the different types in terms of sound quality/speed/file size. Also how do these GPL codecs compare to commercial ones.Anyone got any recomendations or maby someone could point me in the right direction where i could read up on the different types.

Cheers for any help

There are basically a range of sampling rates that you can use to get the best quality -vs.- file size combination. Here's a link, and you can try searching www.google.com/linux (http://www.google.com/linux) for more info as well:
http://www.linux.org/docs/ldp/howto/MP3-HOWTO-10.html

Hope that helps.

Judging by the wat the link had to say the main difference beween the different encders is speed. Gogo will have to be tryed i think: ;)

www.r3mix.net (http://www.r3mix.net) shows how L.A.M.E. compares with the Fraunhofer, Xing, and BladEnc encoders. GoGo is based off of an old version of L.A.M.E. so the sound quality wouldn't be as good as the original.
