FTP Uploading

Im trying to upload some folders from linux. After I've logged into the FTP, I do: put folder_name

But it wont allow me to upload folders. I can only upload files. How can I get it to upload folders too?

i really don't think you can upload a folder, as they contain only the information of the what is inside and the location. but, if you find a way, let me know.

I just want to upload the folder and its contents.
