Can't get much more "newbie" than me - a 40 yr old physician Mac User that wants to fiddle with Linux just for fun; no background experience with line commands, unix, or anything much beyond a Mac or Windows GUI.

This weekend , I loaded RedHat 8.0 on a HP Pavilion 8250 (pentium II) without problems, except now I cannot configure the above wireless ethernet card. Everything else seems to work fine.

The HP previously ran Windows and was hooked up to internet thorugh an Apple "Airport Base Station".

Under RedHat 8.0, I have been trying to run internet configuration wizard, but have not been given option of an adapter that seems identical or similar to LinkSys WMP11 PCI card/antenna (which supposedly containes Prism 2.5 chipset)

I am able to detect it under "hardware browser", but the device shows up as a "Prism 2.5 Wavelan Chipset", with the manufacturer being "Harris Semiconductor" and the Driver being orinoco_pci

Other questions I have are what device setting should this be:
eth0? up to eth7?

Any other special settings under resources: IRQ, etc.?

I have browsed around some other online resources, and am not sure I understand much about linux-wlan-ng-0.1.9.tar, or some of the other drivers(?) that require compiling.

Any advice (including "go back to checking thyroid tests) would be welcome.

I'm looking to do the same thing, a linksys wpc11 wifi card in my thinkpad t21 notebook running RH8. I'll be following any responses you get.

Here's a short tutorial (http://www.saragossa.net/LinuxG3/ls-wlan.shtml) on installing the WMP11 under Linux.
