Hi...
First off... I don't know much about linux.
I am trying to get access to a USB drive and I am trying to figure what linux version to install (based on some weird restrictions I will expain shortly) so that I can get to the drive.
I am on a pentium 300 Mhz system that runs win95 but I can't get it to recognize the USB drive so I am looking to Linux to solve the problem and also get my newbie linux feet wet too.
I can't remove or upgrade Win95.
I only have 400MB of space to install on.
I have to install on the D: drive.
So... what I am looking for is an extremely small version of Linux (around 100 to 200MB if possible) that will let me access the USB drive and not mess with Win95. I don't even need to have a GUI. A command line interface would be fine.
Is this even possible? Is there a release that will do this for me? If not, can I download only the absolutely necessary Linux componets one at a time and somehow get it working?
I downloaded Slackware's Zipslack version of Linux (it is only 100 MB in size and works alongside of WIN95) but it is version 2.2 of linux and there isn't adequate USB support so it wound up doing me no good.
I thought about trying to upgrade the kernal in Zipslack but that is soooo confusing. I can't figure it out although I have tried. Plus I read somewhere that if I did it would mess with my win95 install somehow.
Help! I have no idea what to do now and I have spent a good amount of time digging around trying to figure it out so I don't want to give up yet!
