Hi, I'm basically brand new and out of the womb when it comes to Linux.
I'm downloading Mandrake as I type.
I guess this is just a note to introduce myself to everyone.
Are these forums very user friendly?
Or am I gonna get flamed often and unmercifully? :p
I look forward to trying to learn this OS and getting help from everyone.

It wouldn't hurt to wear flame retardant underwear 'round these parts... but, for the most part, if you're posting questions here, you'll be fine...

Congradulations! Welcome to linux!

:D  :D

More newbies means more questions to answer, and that means an increase in the post counts of the veterans. So yes, people will like you. :D :p

I'm no linux guru myself (I have been using linux for a few weeks), but I am still looking forward to helping you.

peez ;)

Linux is definately a great thing to learn, especially if you are going to be around computers as an occupation. If you stick with it, even if NONE of your hardware works at first, you'll find yourself working with a much better OS than what Microsoft releases.

This is the best set of forums I have ever found as far as Linux. If you need help, its always here, you'll find "newbies" even helping you, as they will be going through the same thing as you are. Research first! www.google.com (http://www.google.com) is a great search engine, and www.linuxdoc.org (http://www.linuxdoc.org) is another great place for Linux tutorials. It may take some time to learn (as I have not learned the majority of the OS), but its fun and a great challenge at times.

One thing I love, is that Linux only does what the user tells it to do, nothing is automated!

Good Luck!

You will be able to find people out there who LOVE Linux.
You will sure as heck not be able to find anyone on Earth who LOVES Windows.

What's great about is the support you have from others just like you. If you had trouble with windows (ie. crashing), who are you going to call in order to fix the problem - Microsoft? With Linux, however, there is always an enormous amount of documentation and people willing to help you...

Find me ONE forum or discussion board on the internet that deals with Window's newbies helping other newbies, and I'll... And if the forum died a year ago, then it doesn't count. ;)
