I have spent the last 70-80 hours downloading the first debian cd.
When I install it, it keeps saying - "modprobe: can't open dependencies file /lib/modules/2.2.17/modules....."
It comes up with this probably a hundred times or so during install.
I'm not sure if it is a bad image file or if it is something I have done.
One thing I have noticed is that some of the files (on the CD) show Zero length, such as debconf_0.2.80.16.deb - When I look at the file on the FTP site it is shown as a directory (with CuteFTP 4). When I try to download this directory it tells me it isn't a directory or it can't open the directory.?
Could someone shed some light on this
TIA

You probably need the second CD also.

From what I've read only the first CD is needed. The others are additional apps

If someone has got the proper CDs could they maybe check this file to see if it is Zero length on theirs (in admin)

Sounds like you have had either a bad download or burn. You are right that you only need the 1st cd to install.

debconf_0.2.80.16.deb is 44 bytes in size.

Next posting.... contents of debconf_0.2.80.16.deb

There are many files with zero length, that was just one.
That specific file shows as a directory on the ftp sites but won't download or change directory. Could you see if you can download it?
Thanks for your replies.

I found a similar file along with a few others. But in the binary-all/admin folder.
It is called debconf_0.2.80.17.deb would this work? If not where can I get these files that aren't listed as none opening directories.

Just tried it with getright.
With getright it shows it as a link to the binary-all/admin folder and its size when downloaded for me was 124K.
Am I drinking too much beer here?????

124.3 kb is what I have on the downloaded
debconf_0.2.80.17.deb.

This should work all right but I certainly can't promise you it will.

Do I have to have the files in both directories because it isn't in both directories on the ftp - just a link

Is the file in both the binary-all and the binary folder for you?
