Hi there,

I was wondering if there´s a way to create a NAS server with Linux to store files and to replace a couple of file servers running Window$.

I´ve heard about some hardware based solutions, but I want to create and configure a linux machine plenty of hd space as a file server in my network, accesible from both Windows and linux clients.

Is there a way to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

There is a Linux based OS, NASLite, that will do what you want IF you're not worried about permissions.

It runs from a floppy, is easy to set up and configure, works great, but has limitations. Every one can see all of the files, so it's not ideal for all situations.

However, it also comes w/ a built in web server, so you get to the files thru a browser!
