I need to download Red Hat 7.1
Do I need both Cd1 and Cd2? Or only Cd1?
I need the basic install, as far as kde and gnome installation goes.
Please answer and i won't bother the board again ' ;)

I would download both unless you just have a really slow connection. I didn't install everything, but I didn't install the minimum either, and it asked for the second CD.

You will need the 2nd cd.

I have a slow connection.
So, the question is:
To gain more time for my linux experience :) will I DEFINITELY need the 2nd cd for the BASE of the operating system?
Or, the question in other form:
What does the 2nd cd contain? RedHat's site is very comfusing in that matter, unfortunately. The clearly don't wan't us to download ;)

Any Redhat users here know what is on the 2nd CD?
lots, it would necesarry for you to get it to have a complete os...
those are HUGE downloads even for my cable modem, and since i can get the bacic system for around 35 to 40 bucks for a boxed set at my local computer store that is what i did, plus i got a cool Redhat ball cap in the mail free, you dont have to buy the deluxe workstation for 75 bucks, and will still get lots of apps and goodies with the basic setup...

those are HUGE downloads even for my cable modem
Side remarks:
I take it that not all cable modems (or cable ISP's) are created equal?? When I was with Shaw Cable in Calgary, Alberta, I could routinely get 1300-1500 kbps download through that Motorola CyberSURFR box... So that would mean two hours or so?
Right now I'm on NBNet Vibe ADSL, which gives me about 900/300. So the cable vs. ADSL matter continues: YMMV.
Side remarks off

well, the ISO images says disk 2 is "extras" but I would definitely suggest it. It most likely contains, KDE, Gnome, among other things. There is a third CD called powertools, you do not need that. I have never done a plain workstation install though, so I don't think trying it would hurt. If it asks for a second CD, cancel, and reboot, reinstall, reformat, etc. with the second in hand.
