When I boot up my PC, my NIC is reported to be on IRQ 9, and in Win2K it's shown as IRQ 9. But when installing Slackware 8 and previously Mandrake 7.1, Linux finds it on IRQ 10. I have checked the BIOS and IRQ 10 shows as (Reserved).....Disabled(that was the default). I can't seem to find the ISA/Legacy settings for the IRQs. My card is a 3com509b-TP0 Etherlink III (ISA in PnP mode under Win2k) and my board is an Abit KT7 (no RAID). Anybody know what the IRQ should be? If I can't change it in the BIOS can I make Linux see it as IRQ 9 ?
There was a reference to this on LNO but it didn't say how it was resolved.

Actually your better off disabling PnP mode for any ISA cards when using Linux.
Does the nic not work or are you just concerned about the interrupt?
Most isa (jumperless) cards come with a dos configuration utility where you can disable PnP and also change the irq and i/o it uses.

It doesn't work (it's ok in W2K). It came out of an old PC I bought cheap from work, so I don't have the DOS utility. Is there someplace to download it from? I'll try google in the meantime. Thanks mdwatts, you're always there to help!

Thanks... I'm certainly not always right, but I hope you give me points for trying.
Reading the posts here at LNO has done wonders for my Linux knowledge. I have many good people here to thank for that.
