Okee, this may sound incredibly basic. Regardless... here is my question. I'm hoping someone can help me.

I have 2 computers that I would like help with as far as network configuration. Basically, I want 2 boxes. One is my daily computer that is running win98se. Second I hope to setup with Redhat 7.2, and have it configured as a firewall. My connection method is DSL. I would eventually like to run a program that will basically be a sniffer for applications I'm running on my main PC.

I have both Operating Systems installed now, and they CAN ping each other. I have my win98 box as 192.168.0.6, and linux as 192.168.0.1 . I installed pppoe, and it can establish a connection without a hitch. The Linux box has 2 NICs. I'm not sure if I was supposed to this, but... on my NIC that is interfacing with the DSL, it is 192.168.0.2, whereas my NIC to the hub is 192.168.0.1.

I am a complete newb to Linux, but I follow directions fine. I 'think' what I want to setup is an IPmasq configuration. I'm not positive if this is the best thing, but it's what I've found so far. The farthest I have gotten so far with this is... I have gotten it to where I can ping both machines prior to DSL connection. In the PPPoE documentation, I was supposed to ping the IP that my DSL provider displays under PPP0(think) when I run IFConfig. This works fine. So, as far as I can see, PPPOE works, my connection is fine etc.

My questions are:

What now?
Is there something I'm supposed to have under my Win98 machines NIC-TCPIP or PPP-TCPIP settings? Something about my linux box? Is IT my DNS server now?

Is there some configuration I'm supposed to make within IE/Netscape? Is my Linux box a proxy server or something?

Even after I am connected to DSL on my linux pc, Netscape isn't working. This is fresh outta Redhat 7.2 netscape, no changes were made. I imagine I'm supposed to do SOMETHING, but what? I type adsl-start, and it connects... but if I could at least surf on my Linux PC, I'd feel a lot better =p.

Basically... I don't care yet for the actual 'firewall' functions my Linux PC will provide. I want to establish connection THROUGH Linux pc, TO the Win98 machine. After I have that, I'll do my best to figure out ipchains, and work from there.

In a complete 'example' situation... what should I have under both pc's settings. ON linux, should I have an IP under both NICs? Seperate IP? They should be 'static', and bootup status, correct? If someone could provide sample IPs for me to use, if you think my current setup is bad... that'd be amazing. On my win98 pc, NIC-Tcpip and PPP-Tcpip... should they have the same IP? Same mask? (255.255.255.0 atm) DNS entries, what should I have here? Wins?

I'm sure this is very basic information, and eventually I'll have this down. I thank you all for any help you could provide.
