I was trying to install the hpijs driver, but when I did the ./configure command, I got and error:

loading cache ./config.cache
checking for a BSD compatible install... /usr//bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking whether make sets ${MAKE}... yes
checking for working aclocal... missing
checking for working autoconf... missing
checking for working automake... missing
checking for working autoheader... missing
checking for working makeinfo... found
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
configure: error: no acceptable cc found in $PATH

I tried "make" and "make install" after, but it wouldn't let me, of course.

I just got a really nice printer, HP PSC 2110, and I'd hate to return it, so please help me out!

It's not the printer or the driver. Sounds like you have a bunch of packages missing. I know that automake and autoconf are packages on the cd's along with gcc and cc. do a search in the package manager for these and anyother missing packages then try again. you can go on the net and go to rpmfind.net and find what packages contain the items you are missing.

Just install the CUPS printing software, your printer is supported and (probably) autodetected.

USE:
Mandrake->Configuration->Mandrake Control Center, click on "hardware", click on "printer" (you may have to wait a few minutes).

Ok, here's what's happened so far:

I stalled the development packages, compiled the drive and installed it, and I printed a test page successfully. Immediately, I went to print a web page, but I wouldn't even get the little dialog box that usually pops up (the one that asks you how many copies you'd like of it, etc.) So, I tried page setup in Mozilla, and it doesn't do anything.

I tried printing in Open Office, it says it's transfering to the printer, but then no printing takes place.

So, I got back to my printer settings, and try to print another test page. I get NOTHING. Just a little dialog box that says a test page is being sent, but no printing takes place.

I'm really confuzzled on this, esspecially since I printed the first test page no problem. I'll repeat, I changed NO settings.

Can anyone help me out? Please?

Good job...

Would you mind posting your solution to the problem as members do sometimes use the forum search and it would help if someone was looking to solve the same problem.

Thank...

Umm, the solution was pretty simple, actually.

I went to the control center in Mandrake, and I chose which printer I wanted to use rahter than letting it auto-dectect the type (since it was coming up as the wrong one). After that, I just chose to use hpijs as the driver, and I was good to go!

Also, it seems the reason I couldn't print from Mozilla was because there was something else going on with it. I realized shortly after that any time I clicked a button, it wouldn't do anything, and it wasn't reading JavaScript correctly, so I removed it and re-installed it, and now it works flawlessly.
