Hello all

I have RedHat 7.0 and would like to install Evolution on my machine, without installing the whole Ximian Desktop.

I downloaded Evolution but when I tried to install it, dependencies were missing (lots of them).

I thought that would be a hard task, but wen I downloaded the first dependency missing, and I couldn't install it because the depedency needed a depency, that revealed the true nature of the task: Impossible.

Has anyone been sucessful with this?
I really need a good mail client. Kmail or Netscape just aren't enough.

Thank you.

the dependencies missing:
bonobo
libgtkhtml14
gtkhtml
libgal9
libbonobo-print.so.2
libbonobo.so.2
libbonobo_conf.so.0
libbonobox.so.2
libgal.so.8
libgal.so.9
libconf-1.so.1
libconf-gtk-1.so.1
libgnomeprint.so.11
libgnomevfs.so.0
libgtkhtml.so.13
libgtkhtml.so.14
liboaf.so.0

I'd a similar problem, except I was trying to download the entire damn thing (the Ximian Installer doesn't seem to like proxies, even though it has an option for going through them).

I've actually kinda given in and decided to download the source and try to compile it myself. I dunno if that'll work, but it's worth a shot.

Try it this way: Browse to ftp://ftp.ximian.com/pub/evolution and then to the folder for your distro. You will need several RPM's but they are all there, and it will install and work fine. This is a back-handed way of doing it, the right way is to use Red-Carpet and it will resolve all the dependencies at once, but I think that may require that you be running the Ximian stuff, I don't know. Evolution is just great, there are also daily snapshots available elsewhere on that site. Evo and Nautilus have changed the whole Linux experience for me. Ray

I'm just waiting for the day when someone creates an app that can connect to my MS Exchange mailbox and then it'll be bye bye Winders on my laptop...
