I plan to be compiling kernel 2.4.1 on two different ocmputers. One is a laptop that runs linux well and a desktop that has ISA slots. Is it advisable to remove PCMCIA and isapnp packages from your system before compiling he new kernel? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

P.S the reason why I asked, is having read something about what is new in the kernel, and both isapnp and pcmcia were mentioned as being part of the kernel.

Thanks.

I don't have any experience with laptops, but you shouldn't have to remove anything when compiling the kernel. You may have to remove something before you switch over to the new kernel, I really don't know.
