It's wanting to put this in my home directory, but I partitioned my largest directory as /usr, which is where I was told most software goes. Can I put this in /usr? I see a lot of software in /usr/lib, is that a safe place to direct to be installed? /usr/lib/soffice52? Or is that kind of like a system folder?

Here's the option I used. If you install staroffice with the option /net after the installation command. i.e. "install-office52 /net" or whatever the program is called, it will be installed to your /usr/local directory. It will also setup a directory in your home directory that will allow your settings and files to be stored there. This uses the /usr directory for most of the files and uses about 2 megs in your homespace with all your settings.

well, that is excellent advice. I take it you are installing from the command line and not just double-clicking the .bin file? Will the install command work on a Red Hat system?
