I am one of three people who use our computers in this place. I would REALLY like to convert everybody to Linux for the stability and reliability, and have TRUE user profile system and customizations. However, the others, being my mother, who needs to be told everything step by step ad my sister who goes ahead so fast our 700Mhz sometimes even keep up, which sometimes results in her stuffing things up, or, blaming me.

Some of the reasons why it would be advantagous:
* No blue screens for my sister to shout at me about.
* Supported microsoft word document formats with StarOffice, which I have lying aroud on CD.

Disadvantages:
* MY USB scanner, being a CanoScan FB630U/FB636U, according to windows is not supported at this time, (As far as I know).
* It would mean teaching everybody a whole ew system.
* Since we have an older P166, I would not be able to use Mandrake as I would use on the 700 unless there is some way I can tweak it...
* I would actually be blamed for more than I am now under windows.

So. Give me suggestions and an overall idea of whether I would convert two loyal windows users, who don't know anything about linux.

Thanks.

One day, the DJ declared! Let this OS be taken to the world, and Linux was introduced to many frustrated windows users!

There's a lot of things to be said about this, I only want to make one point.
The recent versions of some distros (at least Mandrake) come very close to windows as far as the user friendly concept is concerned.
With a good newer machine that includes supported hardware, using the KDE i sjust as using windows minus all the troubles you have mentioned. Most of the utilities work like your old windows applications, all in all I believe it's not great effort involved in learning the small differences. Once you leave the KDE it's another story but IMHO Linux has reached the point where there's very little difference between what you see and can do in Windows and in any Windows manager in Linux.
Enough said,
