got a old computer from my dad(pentium200mmx)

had NT installed on it,

I deleted all partitions.

****
when i reboot i get

mouse...detected
keyboard....detected

hardrive...maxtorblablabla

no operating system present

*******

it dosent seem to load the drivers for the cdrom, cause when i set the boot priority to boot from cdrom i get "please put media in apropriate drive"

i dont know what to do. I was thinking i could boot with a win98 boot disk and select the "with cd-rom support and when i get to an A:prompt i could switch to the cdrom with redhat in it and make it load somehow???? does this sound reasonable?

any other ideas?

thx for all your help

also i just used these cd's to do a flawless install on my computer.

If your bios has the option to boot from cd and it will not boot from the Redhat 8.0 installation cd, then I would suspect you did not burn the iso image correctly.

Can you see a filesystem (files/directories) on the installation cd?

well i know the cd is good cause i just installed it on my "good" computer

also, i set the boot priority to cd then floppy(as well as JUST the cdrom and everything else disabled) and put the cd and a win 98 boot diskett in and the cd dosent even spin, it just skips to the diskett?

another question, mdwatts you ever get tired of helping clueless n00bs?

You could use the cdrom to make a boot disk. Of course you will need another computer for that, or at least the win98 boot disk you spoke of.

Look for a file named somthing like boot.img image it to a blank floppy. If your in a dos or windows invironment you can use rawrite to make the floppy.

Its been along time since I used redhat, so I hope my information is accurate enough to help.

Good Luck

well i guess my question is, when i boot from win98 boot disk and select "with cdrom support"

move from a: to d: <---cd rom prompt, is there anything i can do to make it spin?

I think the Drive letter will be E:\ if you have only one Dos Partition on the hard drive, because Win98 boot disk loads some tools in memory and calls it D:\.

I would get the drive letter reported by the bootdisk and get a directory on it.

E:\Dir /p

Some distros will let you install from dos, but Im not sure about Redhat.

Let me know what you find.

YES!!!!

I do try to help even though I still consider myself a newbie.

LNO is getting way to busy these days and it's really hard to keep up with all the questions being posted.
