I keep getting my email boxes flooded with emails from and relating to Linuxmotor.com. Every one that I get has a virus in it. what's worse, all of the replies from ppl wanting to unsubscribe are getting sent to ME! I just wanted to put out a notice that they were doing this.

It's a Windoze virus, but I know that some of you folks may use it for web surfing. Youse guys be careful! :)

Its not there fault, they were hacked. I took this from the homepage (http://www.linuxmotor.com) :
Hello,

We regret to inform you that a newsletter sent to our Linux Motor company customers, a data-processing hacker used our Mailing List server to distribute a virus to all our users and amongst our customers as well who are hosted upon our servers.

Linux Motor ensures the support of several Linux editors and we also apologize to their customers for this piracy act. This hacker used one software feature which allows to perform a bulk-mailing. The message containing the enclosure JNPDJBJN.EXE keeps a virus TROJ_HYBRIS.M which is sent from our address contact@linuxmotor.com.

Edit: URL Fix

Question: What exactly will a windows virus do if it reaches a linux filesystem?

Well, I guess you could get certain Windows viruses to run under wine or dosemu if you tried really hard, and if they wouldn't work under wine, you could always try running them under vmware. I've checked the wine "compatible software" list, and I've found that very few viruses are listed on it. That's not to say that you can't get some viruses to work under wine, but it'd probably take quite a bit of advanced configuration work. People have gotten Office 2000 to work in wine, so you could probably get it to run your favorite viruses too if you work at it.

So that's what was going on last night. I had the same thing happen to my box; unsubscribe messages, messages from linuxmotor, and the virus. It was really starting to p!ss me off. Thanks for the info.

Same thing happened to me. I'm not sure why. Strange thing is...that's not the first time I've had that problem. Another newsletter I subscribed to had the same problem. But I can't remember what the problem was though.

Add me to the list. Same story, got the newsletter one day (which I didn't ask for) then next I got 5 emails from total strangers wanting to unsubscribe. (adressed to linuxmotor)

I'd still like to know I got on the list in the first place.

I finally had to send an email to Linuxmotor.com, I hope it didn't make em mad or anything. I counted a total of five newsletters, 28 unsubscribe messages, and 3 emails with the virus.... That's the only reason why I'd send them an email.
<edit>
When I checked the site two days ago, that message about the site being hacked wasn't there. Kudos to Linuxmotor.com for quick response!!!
