Can anyone help me please, i want to install mandrake 8.0, can i just go to one of the ftp sites and download the entire contenets onto a cd and boot from the cd???

you can do that , there is a nice like how to int he mandrake site

what i do is get the fiels and put them on a HD and use the HD.img to boot off disk then point it to the folder witht he files and then its cake after that :)

You need to download the iso's. If you don't understand what an iso is you might want to read up on it a little bit, but it's a single file which is a disk image.

After downloading the iso files you should also check the md5sum to make sure the files didn't get corrupted.

When you make the cd's, the first one is bootable.

i agree with Icculus, you can dl all the files from mandrake onto your hard drive and tell it that the install files are on your hard drive, if you choise this method, do not dl the iso's, you would want to dl all the files, if you are in windows, dl the files with cute ftp or ftp program, I've done this method many times and its nice, just if you choise this method, dont delete the linux install files unless you know your not gonna reinstall for a while :)
