hi

I have just setup redhat8 But when setting on the video I overset the card / montor values and now am unable to read the screen

How do I stop the desktop loading
and/or
How do fix this from commard line

You can change the default runlevel to '3' in /etc/inittab to temporarily boot into text mode until you get X reconfigured. Change back to runlevel '5' when X is setup and working correctly.

Use the standard X config tools (xf86config or xf86cfg) to reconfigure X and then startx to test.

ctrl-alt-backspace to exit out of X.
